Our Cultural and Christian Heritage

Liskeard is an ancient Stannary and market town conveniently located in the heart of South East Cornwall. It is the administrative centre of the Caradon District.

The town lies above the Looe river valley, some 14 miles west of the Tamar River. The main London to Penzance railway line and the A38 trunk road provide Liskeard with rapid access to Plymouth and the motorway network, and the rest of Cornwall. The hidden coves and resorts of the beautiful south Cornish coast are easily reached by road or rail, whilst to the north of the town lies the vast rugged expanse of remote Bodmin Moor.

Today, as we move around Liskeard, six Celtic crosses, which are part of our heritage and remind us of the Christian tradition and culture of Cornwall, can be seen. One cross, the Town Council’s Community Cross sited on the Parade, was dedicated on New Year’s Eve 1999.

Five crosses next to the five main routes leading into and out of Liskeard were dedicated on 11th June 2000 by individual denominations within the town.  Each cross on this page is above the name of the associated church.
